would like to know - What quirky habits (superstitions, must haves, etc.) do you have while writing?
From my morning routine of ‘needing’ to have those few moments of silence to wake up by, all the way down to my nightly routine of making sure all the furbies are fed, watered, and tucked in, yes, this includes the fish, which I tell goodnight to every night.
So quirky is a way of life for sure.
With writing, it depends on what I am working on. I always have a pillar candle (special to the manuscript) I burn. Most times it has the name of the manuscript written on the side somewhere. It candle holder is a twisted cast iron that represents the way I like to twist and turn in my writing.
I have to have my Witches’ Datebook at my side, along with a notebook and multi colored pens. Seeing as I write by the seat of my pants, I often times find another scene trying to work its way into the current one. I grab my notebook, jot down the notes, and continue with the scene I’m on.
I often times use herbal healing in my works. So there have been times where I will boil up a tincture to better describe the scent of the room around my character. Yes, I’ve taken an herbalism class to better understand the arts of healing with herbs J
When writing Into the Darkness I burned a good deal of Dragon’s Blood, wore my Dragon’s Blood oil, and let this scent consume me while I wrote. Okay, so it did help that I normally do these things because Dragon’s Blood is my all-time favorite scent J
With life so busy at the present time, I MUST HAVE my laptop. I enjoy writing in my office, but with my daily schedule that is not always possible. So the laptop makes it easy to keep up with daily word counts. Yes, I do happen to take a few of the things I must have while writing with me wherever I happen to write at.
If at home at the kitchen table or in the living room, I make sure there is a notebook, my pens, and my datebook beside me. Even from time to time the candle. Recently, I took to burning sage in my sage burner shell to optimize my thought patterns.
When away from home, I still make sure I have my datebook, pens, and notebook in easy access to my needs.
