Good morning, everyone!!!
Well interestingly enough I was talking to my mom on the phone yesterday morning when my sister says, "Hey, you want to come over for steaks?" Of course my response was "What kind?" LOL like that really mattered, steak is steak, right???
I guess I can be bribed, because instead of mowing the lawn I went and spent the day at the farm :) taking with me a pair of jeans, socks, and tennis shoes (I had changed from work clothes into comfy shorts) for that walk in the woods I knew we would take before I headed back home.
I spent the day hanging out. We grilled out. I learned a nifty new way to hard boil fresh eggs. Made deviled eggs. Had some really sweet sweet corn. A nice fresh salad. Then went for that walk in the woods I knew we would take.
We looked for morel mushrooms but ended up only finding a pheasant tail mushroom :) Picture below. Of course we brought that back to the house.
We've learned so much about the woods just going for these walks. We've learned the changes of each season. We're learning to identify different plants. We're learning the markings of nature. It's just amazing how nice it is to just get out there and be one with nature a bit.
We never stay on the beaten path, even though my brother-in-law has carved out some very nice trails through there. We've found loads and loads of treasures. Old bottles, broken old dishes, even an old chair, which I just now realized we didn't see yesterday LOL. Don't worry, it's still there, we just didn't see it.
The one thing we've learned about being in the woods is, there's magic in them there woods. Okay, maybe not magic, but it can see that way. You can walk the same area a hundred times and find new treasures in that area each time you go. Something you didn't see before.
Growing up I used to play in the woods every summer. These adventures my sister and I take walking in the woods, up and down big hills, in the creek, walking across big logs, yeah, it reminds me of a time in life I loved.
I vowed on my birthday this year to be more adventurous. My sister has not let me forget that. :) It's nice taking these little adventures through the woods because frankly, we don't have to go far to find new things to do, even if it is the same place. Like I said before, everything is different each time we head down that path around the lake and head into the woods.
Living life doesn't have to be all bells and whistles. It can be the simple things in this world that make things worth it. A walk in the woods, sitting by the lake, good conversation, or even no conversation at all, just being.
Well I guess I should get something besides pjs on this old body and head up to the store to start lunch for our customers. Then home to get this mowing thing underway :)
Everyone have a great day!!!
Blessings to all!!!
